Farzad Naeim: Performance Based Design of Tall Buildings (T3)
BRIEF CV
Farzad Naeim got his M. Sc. Degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1980. He was awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy in Structural Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1982. He is also Juris Doctor, with Highest Honors from the Concord University School of Law (2002).
Since 1984, he has been director of the Research & Development, John A. Martin & Associates, Inc. Since 2003 till now, he has been Vice President and General Counsel of the John A. Martin & Associates, Inc and President of the Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council. Farzad Naeim is President of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI). He was member of the Board of Directors of EERI.
He was Editor-in-Chief of the Earthquake Spectra. In addition to his research activities, he was also lecturer at the Universtiy of California, Berkeley, lecturer at the University of California (Los Angeles), lecturer at the California State University (Northridge) and Adjunct Professor of Engineering at the California State University (Northridge, California).
Farzad Naeim is Chair of the Board of Advisors, Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Univ. of Southern California), Member of the Board of Directors of the Consortium of Organizations for Strong Motion Observation Systems (COSMOS), member of the Advisory Council of the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC), member of the UCLA’s Industry Advisory Board, member of the USC’s Industry Advisory Board.
For his achievements in Engineering and Law, Farzad Naeim has received numerous awards.
His engineering expertise and research includes: Seismic Analysis and Design; Nonlinear Analysis and Performance-Based Design; Design Earthquake Ground Motions; Research and Development.
Farzad Naeim is member of a number of organizations and associations.
He authored three books: The Seismic Design Handbook, 1st Edition, Van Nostrand Reinhold, New York, 1989; Design of Seismic Isolated Structures – from Theory to Practice, John Wiley and Sons, New York, 1999; The Seismic Design Handbook, 2nd Edition, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Boston, MA, 2001. He also authored many book chapters.
He also published many papers in journals and made numerous contributions to conferences.
