Atilla Ansal: Assessment of Site Response Analyses for Microzonation (T1)

BRIEF CV
M. Atilla Ansal graduated from the Istanbul Technical University, Civil Engineering Faculty in 1969 with M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from the Civil Engineering Department at Northwestern University in 1977. He returned back to the Istanbul Technical University in 1978 as a faculty member. He moved to Bogazici University, Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute in 2002 where he is still serving as a professor in the Department of Earthquake Engineering.
He worked as post doctoral fellow or as visiting professor for extended periods in the State University of California in Chico; U.S.Geological Survey in Menlo Park; Tokyo University, Civil Engineering Department, Japan; National Civil Engineering Laboratories, Lisbon, Portugal; University of Naples, Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, Italy; and Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, Oslo, Norway.
His major activities may be summarised under three groups. The first group is related to EU Framework projects. He was a partner in EU FP6 Project “Risk Mitigation for Earthquakes and Landslides, LESSLOSS” and is a partner for EU FP7 Project "Seismic Engineering Research Infrastructures for European Synergies, SERIES”. He is the coordinator for the EU-FP7 Project on “Istanbul Urban Earthquake Test Site, URBANQUAKE”. The second group is related to his editorial tasks. He is the Editor in Chief of the International Journal “Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering” and of the Book Series on “Geotechnical, Geological and Earthquake Engineering” both published by Springer. The third group of his activities is related to national and international societies. He has been the Secretary-General of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering since 1994, President of the Turkish National Committee on Earthquake Engineering between 2005-2009, Co-chairman of the ISSMGE Technical Com. TC4 on “Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering” between 2005- 2009, Core Member of the ISSMGE Technical Committee TC19 on "Preservation of Monuments and Historic Sites” since 2001, and Core Member of the ISSMGE European Technical Committee ETC12 on “ Evaluation of Eurocode 8”since 2002. He also served as the President of the Turkish Chamber of Civil Engineers between 1998-2000.
He published over 200 papers in journals, conference proceedings, books and research reports on soil mechanics, soil dynamics, microzonation, liquefaction, site amplification, earthquake hazard scenarios.
