Artur Pinto: Large Scale Testing: Achievements and Future Needs (T5)

BRIEF CV

Artur Pinto has been involved in earthquake engineering research since 1983 teaching at the University of Lisbon (got the PhD in 1997) and developing research activities at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering. He joined the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, Ispra (Italy) in 1988 and is presently responsible for the Construction & Earthquake Engineering Sector. He has over 150 publications in the field of earthquake engineering and structural dynamics.

He has participated in several European research projects and is the JRC responsible for the Eurocodes project (Implementation and Further Development of the Eurocodes). He has important experience in earthquake testing of structures (shake-table and reaction-wall) and has coordinated several pioneering tests on building and bridge models using advanced testing techniques including online testing with substructuring. He has also been involved in various projects concerned with access, research and networking for the European large-scale research infrastructures in the field of earthquake engineering and structural dynamics and fostering for international collaboration.
