On the behalf of the Organizing Committee, MAEE and EAEE, I am extending a warm invitation to scientists, professionals, governmental officials and NGO representatives working in the field of earthquake engineering from Europe and all around the world to attend the 14ECEE. The Conference will be held in Ohrid, ancient town in the Republic of Macedonia, in the period 30th August – 3rd September, 2010.

The Conference will serve as a forum for bringing you together and will provide a unique opportunity for exchanging ideas on the present status of earthquake engineering and its implementation in protection of population and national economies against seismic impacts and development of risk prevention culture. The established contacts among the scientists will create opportunities for future bilateral and multi-lateral scientific cooperation within Europe and beyond. Different workshops on existing joint projects are planned to be organized within the Conference, as well. Through the exhibitions organized during the Conference, the participants will also be familiarized with the latest technological achievements in earthquake related research.

The Conference will provide the perfect opportunity for us to connect and learn from each other and then return home ready to face our shared challenges and create communities of knowledge and innovations that will contribute to a seismically safer world.

I therefore call for your active participation in the upcoming 14ECEE to promote closer cooperation and extensive exchange of knowledge and ideas, share the latest results in research and practice and envisage further developments.

Most of you, who have already visited Macedonia, know the hospitality and sociability of the Macedonian community of earthquake engineers and the Macedonian people. Through the well prepared social programme during the Conference and the planned pre- and post-conference activities, we will enable our old friends, and those who will come in Macedonia for the first time, see its natural beauties and familiarize themselves with its tradition, culture and lifestyle.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Conference.
